The Best of the West End

The The Little Angel Theatre has a secret-feeling alleyway and not only is it the UK’s leading puppet theatre its magic kingdom vibe and superior productions are loved as much by parents as they are by children. For the over five year olds Little Red Riding Hood is showing and for younger children there is a production of Dogs Don’t Do Ballet.

Theatre for babies is hard to find but filling the gap is Unicorn Theatre, Baby Show a sensory piece for tots playtime age six – 18 months.

The Chickenshed Theatre, a north London venue, is a leading theatre of inclusive arts with a strong emphasis on young people. There are the popular weekly “Tales from the Shed”, in which younger children are encouraged to help the story along. The theatre also runs workshops for 5-12 year olds and from Wednesday 6th of August there is a new adaptation of David Walliams’ The Midnight Gang.

From the outside The Polka Theatre looks like the witch’s house in Hansel and Gretel. This Wimbledon institution has been delighting children since 1979. There is an ever changing programme of shows and workshops run across its two stages. The big summer show this year is The Borrowers, a mix of puppetry, performance and music, a must see this summer.

The Puppet Theatre Barge has relocated from W9 to Richmond. This 30-year-old waterborn gem will be performing their version of The Three Pigs and Captain Grimey with hand-made marionettes that are their trademark.
